Understanding how cells compartmentalize at the subcellular level to facilitate biochemical reactions has long been Udit's interest. After completing his integrated BS-MS from IISER Kolkata and master's thesis from CRG Barcelona, Udit started his PhD with Dr. Siddharth Deshpande in WUR. His aim is to address intracellular communication through designer phase-separating membraneless organelles (MOs) in cell-like assemblies, using on-chip microfluidic techniques, advanced microscopy, and molecular cloning. The idea is to generate multiple, functional, condensate-basesd compartments within synthetic cells to drive independent enzymatic reactions. The bigger picture could potentially further our understanding of the dynamic yet specific nature of sub-compartments in natural cells.
