Lorenzo started out his education as a biologist and biotechnologist, with an interest in enzymology microbial metabolism. He participated as doctoral candidate in the MSCA ITN EVOdrops, hosted in the Life Sciences Center of the Vilnius University. During his stay at Vilnius University, he worked on the establishment of a method for enzyme directed evolution in-vitro using the droplet microfluidics technology. Looking for a managerial role, he move to the CNRS in Bordeaux where he currently works as the project manager of the SigSynCell DN.
